Dinner time...Crown Lynn

New Zealand potteries... Crown Lynn
Recognize it, own it, use it, love it...and yes even collect it!
I was lucky enough to acquire a lot of boxes of Crown Lynn a few months ago and have had so much fun washing and sorting and trying to catalogue it and so here goes. I'm sure that most people in New Zealand will recognize at least one pattern.
I don't have all the pattern names noted but have tried to describe the back markings.
Crown Lynn established in the 1920's to make pipe and brick came into its own in the 1940's 1950's and 1960's when it was the largest pottery company in the southern hemisphere. Closed in 1989.

Most items for sale are from $5 to $25 and so it may be time to add to your collection or begin one!! Contact me for exact condition reports and costs dgeisler@paradise.net.nz.

  2. Excuse me, but the 11th photo down has the title Wheat Brown... is this the name of the pattern? Many thanks Ev.

  3. Hi there
I have been trying to work out why I put the 'wheat brown' comment and after researching the names I know all I can think is that the picture is a bit washed out I wanted to emphasize that the colour is a rich wheaty brown. Thanks - I'll update description to be clearer.

  4. Hello,
I received a set of Crown Lynn Forma, Filigree 600,for my wedding in 1974. Your example is the 51st picture down, white with a brown outline of flowers. I do not have a bowl with this pattern on it. The salad bowls that came with the set are plain white. I still love the pattern after all these years!

  5. Thanks for your information - I have updated the pattern description - what a great pattern and so timeless, nearly 40 years on and still fabulous and being enjoyed.

  6. Hi There, I have a question that I'm hoping you can help me out with. I have a complete dinner set in the Vintage Pat No 982 (Grape vine) pattern that was my Grandparents. It is sitting unused in a box. We now need a new dinner set for the family...... should I use this? or is it too precious? (I have 4 & 6 year old girls). Thanks in advance :o)

    1. Hi there
What a lovely gift from your Grandparents. It is always a question as to what to use and what to keep in pristine condition. I have a strong bias on the "use and enjoy" side. There is a fair amount of Vintage pattern around and you would pay between $5-$20 to replace any accidental breakages and so it wouldn't be the end of the world. You might want to pick up a few 'spares' to begin with, then you will have them on hand! In my way of thinking - how great for your daughters to see and live with the china from their Grandparents, what a memory to treasure. Crown Lynn does seem to be quite resilient - but I would certainly try not to put in the dishwasher too often as the patterns will fade quickly, especially the subtle tones of Vintage. Hope this helps. Thanks.

  9. Hi there. I have owned and used my Fragrance dinner set since the 1970s (only a couple of breakages in that time!) and have for the first time in my life acquired a dishwasher - I see you have recommended to someone else not to put their Crown Lynn in the dishwasher too often. Do you make the same recommendation for the Fragrance range? Thanks in advance for your advice.

    1. Hi, not sure I can give any advice other than I have seen faded and worn dishes that I think were caused by dish washing which seems to be harsher in the glaze than hand washing. Good luck!

  10. Hi there, just a quick question. Do you still have any Honeyglow D857 crockery left. After several moves and 3 kids our set is becoming smaller and smaller, big we love it. Thank you!
